Although this story is fiction, the cat in this book is based on a real cat who lives in a real library! David was discovered outside the David A. Howe Public Library as a stray kitten in 2022. He was shortly adopted by library staff and, with his infectiously curious personality, he soon became the town’s favorite honorary librarian.
In order to accommodate individuals with cat allergies, David spends most of his time in a private staff lounge affectionately called “the David room,” but you can meet him at his public office hours and at special library events! He also regularly attends the library board meetings, where he weighs in on decisions and naps on laptop keyboards (both very important tasks). He loves ornithology (the study of birds), playing hide and seek in the stacks, and unsuccessfully trying to eat Christmas garlands. While he has never actually been in a hot air balloon, he does love to watch them when they come to town every summer.
David wants to remind you to visit your local public library; you never know what adventures you may find there!
